Generous in love-God, give grace! Huge in mercy-wipe out my bad record.
Scrub away my guilt,
soak out my sins in your laundry.
I know how bad I've been;
my sins are staring me down.

Have you ever heard of the "Biz bag?" When I was a kid and got my clothes really, really dirty, my grandma would tell me, "You are ready for the Biz bag!" I did not know where she got that term until I recently utilized my favorite search engine and found out that it came from a 1970's television commercial for the laundry detergent, Biz.

My grandma had a Biz bag for dirty clothes. God has a Biz bag for dirty souls. I love Eugene Peterson's translation of Psalm 51 found in The Message. Psalm 51 is a prayer of confession by King David. He asks God to "scrub away" his guilt and "soak out" sins. What a marvelous image!

Have you felt like David when he said, "I know how bad I've been; my sins are staring my down." Have you felt like your soul was dirty? Have you longed for God to wipe out your bad record? Is your soul ready for the "Biz bag?"

It did not matter how dirty my clothes were, my grandma could get them clean. I didn't think anybody could do laundry better than she did. It doesn't matter how dirty you feel, God can cleanse and make you whole. David, later in Psalm 51, prays, "God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life." Is that your prayer?

The next time you get some mud on your clothes may it be a reminder to you of God's "Biz bag" for your soul.
