One of my favorite verses of Scripture is Ephesians 3:20. I especially love Eugene Peterson’s translation of that verse in The Message.
“God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.”
When I was 13 years old, I committed my life to God. My prayer then and my prayer today is that God would use me for his glory in whatever way he desires. More than anything else, I want to glorify God with my life. I think the reason I like that verse so much is that it promises me that God can take my life and do more with it than I can possibly imagine!
The emphasis, though, is not on my life, on my commitment. The emphasis is on God. It is God who can do anything. It is so important that I remember that. It reminds me that I must always seek his guidance and give him the glory.
I also love the promise that God does not “push us around.” Paul tells us that God’s Spirit works “deeply and gently within us.” I long for God’s Spirit to work within me so God can do anything he wants with my life.
This month we will celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. Jesus gave his life and was raised from the dead that we might know that God can do anything! Including giving us new life. I invite you to join me in praying that God will work within you, “his spirit deeply and gently within you.” Are you willing to give your wildest dreams to God? Are you willing to let God use your life for his purposes?
